Salvation is God's Greatest Gift

Romans 3: 23  For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

What this means is that even the best of men have "sinned" or violated God's Law.  The fact that we have sin in our lives means that we have "missed the mark" concerning righteousness.  If we die in sin we will be eternally separated from God.

Romans 6: 23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

What we are told here is that the man who sins, will die and since we have all sinned, we are all standing in line to face (experience) death.  BUT even though there is no way to avoid physical death THERE IS a way to avoid SPIRITUAL death which means that we can accept this gift and go to heaven after we die.

Romans 5: 8   But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

When Jesus died on the cross "for our sins" or on account of our sins, it was not the nails that held Jesus on the cross, it was the LOVE that He had for those of us who are sinners, that held Him on that cross.

God commended (He directed) His LOVE toward you and I while we were at our very worst.  While He hung on the cross Jesus saw all of our sins, but He died for us in-spite of everything that we had ever done.

Romans 19:  9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

To confess with thy mouth does not indicate that we are required to name all of our sins - However this verse teaches us that we are required to AGREE with God about the guilt of our sin.  When we ADMIT that we are a sinner and "in our heart" LOOK to a resurrected Jesus for forgiveness, then we will gain that forgiveness and we will be delivered from the penalty of sin which is hell.

Romans 10: 10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Righteousness is the opposite of "falling short" of the glory of God.  A good life is not a life without sin.  So if we cannot live without sin, we cannot avoid the penalty of sin.  This is why all men need the gift of God called salvation.

Since we cannot avoid the practice of sin, the only way to achieve righteousness is through faith.  To be ashamed of our sins and to believe IN OUR HEART that Jesus will give us this gift if we confess or AGREE with God that we are guilty and turn to Him (repent).

Romans 10: 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Salvation is not a result of praying the right kind of prayer or saying the right words, salvation enters a repentant heart which is a broken heart.  A repentant heart is a heart that is ashamed of our sin, a heart that is ashamed of our disobedience, a heart that regrets our rebellion and unbelief.

No man is saved because he learns to pray a special prayer, but a man prays a special prayer because his heart is burdened with guilt and he wants to find forgiveness to take this guilt away.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace (God's kindness) are ye saved through faith (believing/trusting in Jesus); and that not of yourselves (or because of anything that you have earned): it is the gift of God:
